Known Issues

Windows Update Restored is not perfect, and you might encounter some issues while using the project. This page lists every issue we're aware of.

Windows Update Restored v2

• Using Windows Update v2 on any other configuration than Windows 98 First Edition and Internet Explorer 4 (English) won't work.
• Driver Updates won't show any available updates.
• Some of the updates won't download, we are missing their files (CIFs/packages).
• We are missing many inventories to work in multilanguage, so you might encounter the "Cannot Display Page" message when checking for updates.

Windows Update Restored v3.1

• Checking for updates does not work for Windows 2000 with Internet Explorer 6. We are missing the required inventories, so checking for updates will give you an error.
• For Windows 98 First Edition, Second Edition, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 systems: Installing the Windows Update v4 ActiveX Controls will disable the use of Windows Update V3.1.
• We are missing many inventories to work in multilanguage, so you might encounter the "Cannot Display Page" message when checking for updates.
• Driver Updates won't show any available updates.
• Some of the updates won't download, we are missing their files (CIFs/packages).

Windows Update Restored v4

• Checking for updates on Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition on any other language than English or French won't display much updates, we're working on translating them.
• For all supported operating systems, Driver Updates won't display any available updates at the moment.
• Not all the Windows Update Catalog has been currently translated.
• The Driver Updates part of the Windows Update Catalog does not work in any other language than English.

Windows Update Restored v5

• This website requires system modifications to be properly used. See our prerequisites page for more information.
• Windows Update Restored V5 still lacks some pages, so you might encounter 404 pages when clicking on some links.

Windows Update Restored v6

• This website hasn't been restored yet. The restoration is currently in process.

This page receives frequent updates. You can check each month what are the new issues, and which ones were fixed.
