Known Issues
STABLE
VERSION ONLY
When using the stable release, one
issue might appear repeatedly.
On Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 (x86 and x64), I get an error about "MSCOMTCL.OCX" not being present on my computer.
The stable release of the Prerequisites
Installer relies on Visual Basic 6.0. This file is related to the Visual
Basic 6.0 runtime, and can be fixed by downloading and installing
this file.
LEGACY VERSION ONLY
When using the legacy version of this patch, you might encounter some
issues. Here are listed the major ones, as well as how to fix them. We
strongly recommend you to use the Stable release instead. Use the Legacy version
only in extreme cases.
On Windows XP/Server 2003 x64, the site does not load and gets stuck at "Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software".
This is a known bug, but we're currently unable to fix it through the installer. To fix this problem, empty the Internet Temporary Files (Tools > Internet Options > Delete files > Check "Delete all offline content" and click OK), then refresh the page. A popup warning you about an ActiveX control will then show up. Click on it, and click on "Install the ActiveX control". Repeat this until the site loads up. If Windows Update comes up with an error, run the patcher again.
On Windows 2000, Windows Update gets stuck on "Windows Update is looking for available updates".
This is due to the fact that you're running Internet Explorer 5. Upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0 and try again.
When clicking on "Express" or "Custom", Windows Update ends up with an error after briefly displaying the checking animation.
This issues happens when WUWEB.DLL has not properly been replaced. Run the patcher again and check if there's any difference. Be sure to click "Cancel" at every Windows File Protection prompts your operating system might show you.
On Windows XP/Server 2003 x64, the website does not load and immediately throws an error.
Use the Stable release of the patch to avoid issues on x64-based systems.
